Everyday is a fresh slate

By Linda Ornelas

I’m sitting thinking of my day. I watched my son walk away feeling deflated by his father. He was trying to show his dad what he learned in frisbee club while his dad was making breakfast. I watched from another room him being ignored and basically talking to himself. He walked away feeling like he wasted his time and his dad didn’t care.

How often have you been too busy and distracted by chores, the phone, cooking etc. and overlook the smallest blessing right in front of you?

I felt my son’s brokenness. I was sad and hurt too.

My husband copied a behavior that he felt as a child far too often. His dad not acknowledging him. Later that day I pointed it out to my husband. I asked him “how do you think our son felt when you ignored him?” He mulled it over and recognized that he needs to do better with expressing love, so he doesn’t make our son feel invisible.

Just like the word says: Romans 12:2 NLT, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Trusting God to transform you into a new person, simply by changing the way you think. Evaluating yourself, walking in the grace of God. Really being honest with yourself!

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

My husband talked to our son before bed. He took the time to evaluate himself and make things right. Acknowledging you’re wrong and making things right is freedom, not only for yourself but for the person who could have held onto that hurt/offense and later suffered from all types of feelings of rejection.

Today I’m grateful that tomorrow is a new day and his mercies are new everyday.

So again, self evaluation, it’s a gift from God. A chance to do better. One day at a time. Say you’re sorry. Change the way you think and trust God’s will for your life which is good and pleasing and perfect.

💕Grateful for Grace 🙌🏽
